Last week was Netlify's Jamstack Virtual Conference. Obviously, it's centered around Netlify but it is a good opportunity to get a sense of how the Jamstack ecosystem is evolving. The idea to invite Matt Mullenweg was also inspired - though I was disappointed that it didn't result in more of a truce. However, I'm hoping that this puts the debate to rest for a little while.

It's also amazing to see how the ecosystem is evolving outside of Netlify. Microsoft is forging ahead with Static Web Apps, AWS Amplify appears to be making a more concerted effort to invest in courting the Jamstack community, Vercel continues to gain traction - especially with a growing Next.js community - and even Digital Ocean has entered the fray with their new App Platform. To me, this is all the proof you need that Jamstack is more than a Netlify marketing gimmick.

Announcing Netlify Edge Handlers: Now in Early Access
The biggest announcement of the conference was Netlify Edge Handlers, which are effectively server-side code in Netlify Functions that run on Netlify's edge servers in order to modify a request and do things like customize content or handle authentication as the page is being served. For a better explanation, see this article on the New Stack.

Shots Fired: WordPress's Matt Claims Jamstack's Marketing is 'not intellectually honest' in Debate with Netlify's Matt
The other most talked about aspect of the conference was, of course, the chat between Matt Mullenweg and Netlify CEO Matt Biilmann. While the video isn’t online yet as far as I can see, this article offers a good wrap up of the discussion.

Since this is the topic we cannot seem to leave behind yet, this post has some follow up with Matt Biilmann regarding some stats that were cited by Mullenweg around Netlify’s growth.

If you missed Jamstack Conference, many of the sessions are posted. However, as mentioned above, the fireside chat between Matt Biilmann and Matt Mullenweg (and other live sessions) aren’t online as of this writing, but we are told that they are coming soon.
